Black Pudding

Black Pudding is quite a delicacy here in Scotland. Its made all over with the flavors being quite different from place to place. The most famous of all the Black puddings has to be Stornoway Black Pudding made on the Isle of Lewis by WJ MacDonald. Accept no substitute. This is the Stornoway Black Pudding. Big Aaron was up on Lewis recently and brought me a whole one back. Savory.

The real thing.

I also got my hands on some Clonakilty Black Pudding from Ireland. Its really nice and peppery. the only problem is its pretty wee. I guess some puddings are bigger than others.

  1. I love Black Pudding and Stornoway is definitely the best! What are you planning to do with it? ;)

  2. I've never tried black pudding, you don't see it on this side of the pond.

Believe it or not, my Polish maternal grandpa used to talk about it. Mind you he played drums in a pipe band when in the coast guard, so one of the pipers might have introduced him to it.

  4. Never had ethnic black pudding. As a Lancastrian I prefer our local products as they are what I am used to.

Also never seen it in poncy packaging!!!

    1. Don't let the poncy packaging put you off, that Irish stuff was good and it was on offer for a quid in Tesco.
You've not had black pudding till you've had Storoway. You need to get some, surely a good excuse to head up on a bike trip?

  5. Hi mate! Just checked my old blog Jua Kali Forever and noticed you're a follower, chuffed! My blog is dead, but I'm loving yours, you must know that coastrider guy surely, I love his blog. I live on the outskirts of Edinburgh, but only recently discovered Aberlady Sands, Tyninghame and all of these cool places. The Lammermuirs look cool as. I've heard there are loads of Iron-age forts down that way? You look like you have a great life. ATB mate!

  6. Hey Mike, from what I've seen you guys are have a great time. I say enjoy as much as you can.
As for that Black Pudding, I haven't had that in years. Tasted great when I was a kid and ate much of it, and then found out what it was made of. Still I wouldn't mind trying it again. We lived in Scotland down the west coast in Stevenston area. My Uncle would have enjoyed that you and the guys are keeping a good supply of Tennents as he was a foreman there for many years.

Thanks Mike, for your pics and vids of a good time. Say hello to all of the guys from Canada.

    Denis
